Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC)       The APIC Web Site provides a vehicle for communication among Infection Control Practitioners.  In addition, the fact sheets, "Tips on Infection Control" and "Tips on Handwashing", are reproducible and are useful for inservices or orientation of staff, volunteers and even family members. APIC also has a discussion group that list concerns and responses from participating ICP's.  It can be reached by checking here.  Membership in APIC is not a requirement for participation in this discussion group.  A professional resources section is also being constructed.  It is also possible to join APIC via this site.  There is a separate Web Site for the New England Chapter of APIC.

Infection Control in Long-Term Care (Broad Street Solutions)    This Web Site was specifically set up for ICP's in long-term care and was developed by a California Infection Control and Epidemiology Consultant, James Mars, RN, MS, CIC.  In addition to describing his consulting services, the site offers an informative monthly newsletter.  Indexed by topic, it is easy to locate articles of particular   interest.  The November 1997 issue, for example, summarized the CDC Guideline for Infection Control in Health Care Personnel specifically as they related to long-term care.

"Bug Bytes"    This is a biweekly newsletter developed by the Infectious Diseases Department of Louisiana State Medical Center, Shreveport, LA.  Each issue highlights information on the diagnosis, treatment and biology of a particular infectious agent or disease.  Recent issues include Hepatitis C, candidiasis, and osteomyelitis of the diabetic foot.  These brief newsletters may be useful for both     inservices and patient teaching.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)    This Web Site is an incredibly rich source of   information on a wide variety of topics.  Through convenient links, information such as facts, statistics, publications and regulations can be obtained from various agencies within CDC.  CDC Guidelines and Recommendations,
Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) and Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) (which is the journal of the National Center for Infectious Diseases [NCID]) can also be accessed from this site.
